Xcode Command Line Developer Tools

If you like 🍏 and prefer to develop software using the sleek, sensual macOS interface, but you’re not ready to go all the way with Xcode, get the Xcode Command Line Developer Tools.

Fire up your friendly Terminal and issue the command:

$ xcode-select --install
xcode-select: note: install requested for command line developer tools

macOS won’t compile your software out-of-the-box, but this small installation provides the necessary tools without the full bloat of Xcode.

With the Xcode Command Line Developer Tools you can now compile your own software:

$ cat this.c
#include <stdio.h>
int main(void)
  printf("Successfuly compiled.\n");
$ make this
cc     this.c   -o this
localhost:~ me$ ./this
Successfuly compiled.
